Sanam Teri Kasam 2 Announced Amid Legal Dispute

Sanam Teri Kasam, the 2016 romantic drama starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has taken audiences by surprise with its recent re-release on February 7. Despite its initial underwhelming box office performance, the film has now gained unexpected traction, earning significantly in just a few days. However, a controversy has erupted following the announcement of its sequel, Sanam Teri Kasam 2, as conflicting claims emerge over the film’s production rights.

Director Duo Announces Sanam Teri Kasam 2

In a recent interview with Laharen Retro, director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru confirmed that a sequel to Sanam Teri Kasam is in the works. They revealed that while crafting the first film’s emotionally intense storyline, they had already planned a second installment.

The directors hinted at how the sequel would continue from where the first film left off, stating:

“The story was always meant to be told in two parts. The last scene of Sanam Teri Kasam shows Inder (played by Harshvardhan Rane) at a tree, saying he has quit drinking and won a case. That very moment sets the stage for the sequel.”

Furthermore, they suggested that Sanam Teri Kasam 2 is being planned for a Valentine’s Day 2026 release, fueling excitement among fans.

Producer Deepak Mukut’s Strong Opposition

Amid the buzz, film producer Deepak Mukut has stepped in to challenge the sequel’s announcement, stating that Radhika and Vinay made the announcement without his consent. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Mukut asserted his legal hold over the intellectual property (IP) of Sanam Teri Kasam and declared that any decision regarding a sequel, prequel, or remake rests solely with him.

“As the film’s producer, I hold the rights to Sanam Teri Kasam. I announced a sequel with Harshvardhan Rane in September 2024, but I have yet to finalize a director. Radhika and Vinay did not consult me before making their statement.”

Mukut further emphasized that the legalities surrounding the film’s rights could prevent Radhika and Vinay from proceeding with the project independently.

Uncertain Future for the Sequel

The announcement of Sanam Teri Kasam 2 has now sparked uncertainty, as legal disputes over the film’s ownership could potentially delay or alter production plans. While Radhika and Vinay have remained silent following Mukut’s statements, their claim of a pre-written sequel suggests they are eager to proceed. However, with Mukut holding the IP rights, their ability to move forward without his approval remains questionable.

With no official comment from the directors yet, fans eagerly await clarity on whether Sanam Teri Kasam 2 will see the light of day as originally envisioned.
