Bollywood actor and filmmaker Aamir Khan has once again opened up about his long-cherished dream of bringing the Mahabharat to the big screen. Despite earlier speculations about him portraying Krishna, the project never took off. However, the actor now hints that he might be ready to revisit the ambitious idea.
Aamir Khan on Reviving ‘Mahabharat’
Aamir Khan recently attended an event hosted by ABP News, where he was asked about his upcoming projects. The actor revealed that he plans to continue working on selective acting projects while focusing more on producing films under his production house. He cited the example of Laapataa Ladies, emphasizing his intent to promote new talent in the industry.
Speaking about his dream project, Aamir stated,
“I have always dreamt of making Mahabharat. Maybe now, I can seriously start thinking about it.”
When asked whether he would take on a role in the film, he remained non-committal, saying, “Let’s see.”
A Sacred Project, Not Just a Film
This is not the first time Aamir Khan has spoken about Mahabharat. Back in 2022, while promoting Laal Singh Chaddha, he addressed the possibility of making the epic, stating that timing is not a constraint for such a project, as Mahabharat transcends time.
He further elaborated on his approach to the project, saying:
“When you make Mahabharat, you are not making a film—you are performing a sacred offering (yajna). You have to approach it with the same reverence. It is not just a film; it is much deeper than that.”
Despite his passion, Aamir admitted that he is unsure whether he is truly ready for the responsibility. He has been contemplating the idea for years but refrained from moving forward due to the enormity of the subject matter.
Need for Quality Children’s Content
Apart from Mahabharat, Aamir Khan expressed his growing interest in children’s content. He pointed out the lack of original, high-quality children’s films in India, noting that much of the content is imported and dubbed.
“We should create stories that leave a lasting impact on young minds,” he said, highlighting the need to develop engaging narratives for Indian children.
Speculations Around Casting
Over the years, social media has been abuzz with rumors regarding Mahabharat’s potential cast. Reports have suggested that Hrithik Roshan might play Arjun, while Deepika Padukone could portray Draupadi. However, no official confirmation has been made by the makers regarding casting or production details.
For now, Aamir Khan remains cautious about committing to the project, emphasizing that he does not want to take it up unless he can do full justice to it.
